InterRailing In Italy and Greece

Naples

Arriving in Naples was an experience. It looked like a war zone. Litter was flowing from the streets, people were milling around and as we walked towards the hostel we heard numerous rapid fire explosions.

Luckily we weren't under attack, this is what happens when they celebrate Easter Monday.

Pensione Mancini

The Pensione Mancini was our home for the night. Upon arrival we were checked in and given a map and explanation of how to get to the main sites. We were told to be very careful with our rucksacks and valuables. We should keep our rucksacks on using both straps as bag snatching is fairly common. We were told not to flash money or valuables around.

Our room was the smallest of the trip (and the smallest in the hostel), bairly containing a bed and a sink. There was one shard bathroom in the hostel however most of the other larger rooms had an en-suite bathroom so we didn't have to share it with too many people.

Breakfast was included - as we were leaving very early we were given our two packaged rolls the night before which we could eat when we woke up.

The guys running the hostel are friendly and were very helpful. Don't expect an amazing nights sleep - the other people were a bit noisy.

Pensione Mancini

Naples was certainly different to the other places. Much of the city looked derilict. The impression certainly wasn't helped by the fact that all the shops and restaurants were closed for the Easter Monday celebrations.

Despite the deriliction we did manage to find a few nice building but nothing that compared to the other parts of Italy that we visited. Naples is famous for its ice cream and pizza. Unfortunately as almost all the restaurants were closed we had to resort to touristy places near the station.

Tuesday 18th April 2006

Luckily given the impression we got of Naples we were only there for one night. If you are going to visit it then definitely don't go on a public holiday!
